The two new potentially habitable planets
Sick and tired of all the irritating people in the world? There’s some good news for you then. Scientists may have discovered 2 new habitable planets that are not too far from us.
Tau Ceti, a celestial body, is a star very similar to our sun. Although slightly smaller to the sun, it has its own solar system that consists of five planets. Out of the five, Tau Ceti E and Tau Ceti F fall within a favourable temperate zone.
That means the temperature is sufficient enough for water to be present in both solid and liquid states. Tau Ceti E and Tau Ceti F are estimated to be 4.3 and 6.6 times larger than the earth in total size. Possibly then, a place where we can actually freely accommodate some of the 7 billion humans on our planet.
However, before you pack your space bags, and get your space Uber, you might want to hear some of the challenges that these planets face. The two planets in the Tau Centi Solar system are at the extreme edges of the habitable temperate zones. So, it is a generous assumption to say that they are completely habitable. Not to mention the harsh atmospheric composition, along with various other environmental factors.
These two planets may not be the immediately habitable, but at only 12 light years away, it’s worth the exploration.Including these two new planets, NASA has now found a total of 3,600 planets outside of our solar system and believes that 60 of them have the basic requirements for life.
Considering Stephen Hawking’s believes that humans need to travel to another planet or perish within the next 100 years, it might be a tad bit helpful to start considering a few of these options.
Tau Ceti and Tau Ceti f may not be places we are able to travel to in our lifetime, but they are definitely ones we can focus our attention on. Especially if we were to make conditions inhabitable on our planet!
So is it really possible? Can humans really be a multi-planetary species? More importantly, can we manage to do that before man-made disasters cause the earth to end as we know it?
To make this possible, sustainability and the use of greener, cleaner energy is needed. A fresh and sustainable start at another planet may prevent us from destroying earth as we know it. Until that day, we need to explore our closest options. Including the two ‘super-earths’ Tau Ceti E & Tau Ceti F.
