Marketing generation Z
Gen Z & Social Media
If you were born before the mid 90s, you probably check your Facebook account daily, upload pictures of your last trip to social media and use twitter for your current events.
However, teenagers born after 1995 (the illusive generation z) have abandoned these “old” social networks. Nowadays, Instagram and Snapchat are the most popular sites for teens. These social apps are more dynamic and evolving constantly, which is really important for a generation that is used to frequent changes.
According to the research firm eMarketer, Instagram will have more US users than Snapchat at the end of 2017, but Snapchat will overtake Instagram and Facebook within teenage (12 to 17) and young adults (18-24) demographics.
And the projections are similar for the UK. On the one hand, by the end of 2017, more than a quarter of the United Kingdom will be on Instagram. On the other hand, Snapchat will not be far behind and it will have around 14 million users.
Facebook will remain the most popular social network in UK with more than 32 million monthly active users, but it is losing people to Snapchat and Instagram among younger age groups. In fact, Facebook’s user totals will decline by 2.8%, among teens from 12 to 17, and 3.1% within young adults.
In conclusion, gen z are mobile native and fast thinkers, that’s why they prefer dynamic and active social media like Snapchat and Instagram. So, if you want to promote your business through social networks, you may want to think twice before investing your budget into traditional social media.
